Friday. Raining. Bored. Lets see what kind of trouble I can get in on Craigslist.
Right off the bat, things get interesting.
2007 Miles ZX40S LSV for $1,000
This 72V, 35MPH monster rocks four doors and four dead batteries. It comes with a clean Oklahoma title.
Looks like replacement batteries run for about $350 a piece, but there might be some upgrade options available. Apparently the limiter can be removed with some software tweaking, enabling speeds up 45 mph.
Swapping in a Dahiatsu transmission is apparently also a very comon mod.
I won’t lie, this thing would be a lot of fun, but also has the potential to be a massive headache. I like the idea of getting a cheap EV up and going, but I also like the idea of throwing a motorcycle engine in there or something similarly stupid.
Next up we have a cheap Jeep
1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee for $750
Not a lot of info on this other than it needs a new transmission.
Other than that minor detail, it looks pretty sweet. Seemingly good body, decent interior, and an excellent color. I like it!
I feel like transmissions for these can’t be that hard to come by and I know for a fact they can be killer offroad.
This one would seems worth saving or, if not, worth parting out.
1991 Alfa Romeo 164 with $350 current bid
I love all things Alfa and all thing Saab. Since this one is both, that makes it double good... right?
Runs, drives, and has a clean title this thing has my attention. Just look at those controls! :swoon:
I’ll be honest, no one is going to describe these as “pretty” but it is a V6 Alfa and that has to be worth something.
Wow I was happy when I figured out this was an auto. Otherwise I might have had to buy it. Luckily I should be safe...
Should be....
[Update] And lastly a late entry...
!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!
Had to throw this one in. Minty interior, good exterior, 4x4... what is not to like!?
The seller claims it “Needs engine” but still runs and drives? I kinda want to know more. Prices for these are on the up and this one looks pretty excellent.

That GC does look interesting. I’d rather have one of the higher-end models, but for $750...
Where is it?

I also just updated with a MINTY Cherokee for $1500 that “needs engine”. GC is in Tulsa, OK. Cherokee is in Gravette, AR.

Both quite interesting. Both too far from me.

Aah I remember my grandfather arriving in one of those Alfas to a family gathering. The arrival was glorious with all the sm oke coming from the engine

That first electric thing would be easy to swap a Daihatsu transmission into because it looks to be a clone or a built-under-license Daihatsu Move! Import a 660cc kei engine and trans from Japan and I bet it would swap right in sortof almost....LHD kei car!

Grand Cherokee.
It doesn’t need a transmission. It needs a solenoid pack or a band adjustment.

I’ll do a little shopping with you since I’m bored at work . I found this ‘75 280Z for $5750. It looks like a pretty solid example and a straightforward project. It will need new wheels, though.

If you must...I’ll get dragged down with you! I’m on a scooter kick lately, so here are all of the bad ideas in the local area:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I might forward this one to shop-teacher. $650 is a steal for a scoot that needs little work, has a title, and is a 2 fiddy. The seller thinks one of them is a 150, but er...I think they’re both 250s and the titles ought to tell the truth on that query.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
For the masochists that love Chinese interpretations of popular Japanese scooters. Can’t tell if this one’s a scam or if Chinese scooter values are really that bad (if that’s the case I would have never sold the CF Moto).
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It’s basically a faster Yamaha Zuma for far cheaper than a real Zuma. But uh...no fuel injection and you have the repair costs and maintenance of a Chinese bike.
You know what, I’m just going to stop. Bad Mercedes.

Its a rebadged Xingfu Shizhe, converted from ICE to EV. They were license built copies of the Move, made by FAW Tianjin.

Ah, cool! So many things were license built in China...

It’s still amazing to me how cheap cars are in the UK. The Ka and Chevy aren’t worth much here either (but a lot more than that), but that Mercedes would b e worth multiple thousands of Euros still. €3-4k?

After a certain number of years (different for each car, dependant on make and model of vehicle) a car becomes either more hassle and/or cost to maintain, harder to find parts or places to look after them, less efficient, etc... and so gets to a point where they just aren’t worth anything, they would be worth more in scrap value but now it costs to scrap a car as it has to be dismantled and, etc... with newer cars easier to maintain, source parts, more efficient, cheaper to insure, etc...
It always comes down to time, money or both.
I don’t know anyone that would buy a car with more than 40,000 miles on the clock either.
How about this, now sold car.

That’s just insane. Also, 40k miles? That’s barely broken in. Parts availability for a 10 year old car is kind of a weird reason too, I can still easily (and cheaply) get parts for my 32 year old Peugeot 205.
I guess the Brits still have British Leyland cars in mind.

Lol. Funny.
Actually, if you want BL parts, there are several companies around the U.K. that make BL parts, either for a marque or a model or for several of either.
Also many want to the new cars, we used to registered new licence plates once a year, but as it created a headache for car dealers and the DVLA with everyone wanting to be the first with the new licence plate, they made it a twice a year thing. Hence why Sandy is a 68 plate (ie between 1st of October 2018 and the last day of March 2019).
Road tax also changes things as the tax is dependant on when the car was registered. Piglet was £30 per year to tax, Sandy with the same engine, etc... but registered in 2019 is £125 per year to road tax.
